The garden sits on a once derelict site donated to Wimbledon Guild in 1992. After sitting empty for many years in June 2014 volunteers from local businesses cleared the site of head high brambles, laid a water pipe and erected a shed and polytunnel. Compost bins were made from old pallets, and raised beds constructed using rustic wooden railway sleepers, old scaffolding boards and other donated materials. The volunteers also dug a pond, laid paths and paving. Native hedging, bee-friendly flowers and a wildflower meadow were planted with habitats for birds and insects.   

Our team of six volunteers follow organic, permaculture ‘no dig’ methods and are dedicated to growing organic produce which we use in our HomeFood Café. Last year, we had our first full harvest.

The Wimbledon Guild Community Garden is open to the general public, schools, community groups and organisations for use as a shared outdoor space promoting general well-being and improving the lives of people in Wimbledon and across Merton.
